Laika [Fire Dragon Knight] Review: Future LIVE PVP All-star?

Note: An expert opinion from Childish Plays. Laika has been widely known has one of the few units that can one shot any type of unit with his Fatal Blow, Justice. That being said, his unique passive, awakening bonus and leader skill have the making of a true fire bruiser. Which is the best way to build him? Let’s find out! Natural Star Grade: 5★ Dragon Knight Fire Laika Fire Leader Skill: Increases the Defense of ally monsters with Fire attribute by 50% Awakened Bonus: Increases Resistance by 25% Offers: Continuous Damage, Glancing Immunity, Stun-Proc Passive Useful for: Cairos Dungeon, ToA Normal/Hard, Regular & LIVE PVP Runes: Early Game: Fatal/Blade – (Atk%/Atk%/Atk%) End Game (Check below) Build 1 – Offensive: Violent/(Blade/Will/Revenge) – (Atk/Crit D%/Atk%) • Aim for +1000-1500 Attack, 85% Crit. Offensive/YOLO Build: Spd → Crit R% → Crit D% → Atk% Defensive/Hybrid Build: Crit R% → Spd→ Resist → Accuracy → Atk% [easytable] Pros, Cons Glancing Immunity, No AoE Damage Great Base HP for a damage dealer, Continuous Damage inferior to other harmful effects in PVP Can be effective with either an offensive or defensive build, Stun Proc on Passive still has to go through an accuracy / resistance check to land if you are lucky enough to activate the skill [Justice] The damage of this skill increases when his allies die., [Justice] This skill can be used every 2 turns when maxxed., Fire Element used on Defense scares away potential Combos utilizing common Wind Nukers such as Lushen or Katarina and Copper, [/easytable]

Overview

Laika may not be the most sought-after natural 5 star out there, but he definitely packs a punch when it comes to end game PVP. Early Game: Fatal/Blade (Atk%/Atk%/Atk%) If you are fortunate enough to pull this unit early on you will find more value in going with an offensive type of approach. Fatal/Blade is the preferred starting set for this unit. I recommend farming a fatal set focusing on attack and critical rate. The high critical rate will give you a chance at landing continuous damage effects in Cairos dungeon which is a great way to increase dps vs the bosses in these dungeons. End Game: Violent/(Blade/Will/Nemesis/Guard/Energy/Focus) It has been widely known in the Summoners War community that you can’t judge a unit you max their skills to see their true potential. What most don’t know is that Laika’s second skill, which has one of the highest damage multipliers in game, has a cool down time of 2 turns when it is skilled up. This means if Laika utilizes a violent set his damage output over time will greatly increase since every other turn he will have the option of using Justice. I have personally seen Laika’s second skill hit for over 60,000 damage! Let’s be honest, while it is definitely cool to see a unit hit for 60k+ that type of damage is not needed vs what most summoners will see today in the current meta. I highly recommend trying a Hybrid build with a nice mix of Atk%, Crit D%, Hp% and Def%. This build lets you combine Laika’s high damage multipliers with his high base resistance and passive. In LIVE PVP, this will be a unit to consider banning because if your opponent decides to focus down Laika without immunity, their unit may potentially get stunned and lose a turn. If your opponent decides to eliminate Laika’s allies, the damage multiplier of Justice greatly increases and gives him more kill potential every 2 turns. Let’s not forget the fact that his passive makes him immune to glancing. Even though Laika will not land a critical hit every time he hits a water-based unit, the fact that he can’t glance means his damage over time vs weaker elements will be better than most units.

Team Combo

Guild Wars: One of my favorite teams to pair him with in guild wars is Theomars and Chasun. My team is setup to go in this order: Chasun → Theomars → Laika. Laika is speed tuned to go right after Theomars so he has the best chance of finishing the opponent’s main threat. Since the current meta revolves around speed and most players use teams that have units that can boost their team’s attack bar, I highly recommend using a will set on your team to avoid any harmful effects that can greatly impact the outcome of the fight. In conclusion, Laika is an exceptional, versatile unit that should not be taken lightly when faced in PVP.
