Second Awakening (2A) Guide & Tier List

What are second awakenings?
Second awakening monsters (also known as 2A) are special monsters that can have a further awakening form by farming the monster specific dungeon in the Dimension Hole.
Only natural 2-Star or 3-Star monsters can have a second awakening. They are usually weaker and not used as often as 4-Star or 5-Star monsters. If you awaken such a monster, it will become stronger than before and its skills can change. Right now, there are 14 monster families that have a second awakening available. Hopefully, there’ll be more to soon!

How to second awaken
To second awaken a monster, you need experience from the monster dungeon in the Dimension Hole and it also has to be fully skilled up. Since these are natural 2-Star and 3-Star monsters, it’s pretty very easy to find skill ups for them. You’ll get a certain amount of experience with every run in the Dimension Hole dungeon. It depends on the dungeon level, but obviously Level 5 has the most experience gain.
You can usually use free-to-play monsters to farm these dungeons to get your second awakening experience.
Tip: Click on “Strategy Info” in the top left corner and then “Strategy Deck” to get some team recommendations. You can also test your teams by checking the “Test” box. This way you won’t use any energy, but you won’t gain any experience either. The test mode is there to ensure your team doesn’t fail and you don’t waste your valuable Dimension Energy.
Keep in mind that every Dimension Hole area has a specific entry requirement:
Karzhan Remains
Only default 4-Star or lower Monsters can enter.
Ellunia Remains
Only the Monsters of the same attribute can enter.
Lumel Remains
Sum of Monster Default Grade
Khalderun Remains
Monsters of each type
Sacreon Remains
Different attribute Monsters
Dimension Hole Energy is very valuable, because you can only recharge it 3 times a week. Additionally, you only get 1 Dimension Hole Energy every 30 minutes for free. There is no other way to buy more of it, not even in real-money packs for example. Sometimes there is a special Crystal-Shop where you can purchase additional Dimension Hole Energy in a limited amount.
Once the experience bar is full and the monster is fully skilled upped, simply tap on “awaken” in your monster box to complete the process, that’s it! The monster transforms into its second awakening form, becoming stronger.
All new skills of the second awakened monster are back at level 1. If you want to level them up, you can only use other second-awakened monsters from the same monster family or devilmons. Both resources are valuable, so think twice if skill-ups are necessary.
Which monsters are worth?
Since there are lots of monsters with a second awakening form that you can use in PvE or PvP, we’ve decided to create two tier lists for each content type. Some monsters are better for PvE and are very essential for dungeon teams, while others are good for Siege content.
These tier lists will help you to decide which monster should be second awakened and whether it’s worth using up your valuable Dimension Hole Energy. It’s not worth using your energy on monsters that aren’t relevant to Summoners War at the moment. Even with the second awakening, many monsters are still weak and unused in either content and still need a buff to shine.
But there are really strong monsters that benefits from the second awakening form and they’re essential for your progress!
PvE Tier List
Let’s take a closer look at our 2A PvE tier list first:
Must Have | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Good | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Specific (are not bad but can be replaced by other monsters and only be used in certain content) | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Useless | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
As you can see, many monsters are really helpful for your dungeon teams and are powerful in many PvE areas of Summoners War, it’s worth to build them! Then there are monsters that aren’t useful for PvE content and it’s a waste of your Dimension Energy.
PvP Tier List
It can be worth to build these monsters for PvP though. Next, let’s see which monsters are good for PvP content like Arena, RTA or Siege.

We’ve got a great selection of monsters for PvP content, and it can be a good idea to build them more than once for secure offenses in Siege.
Many monsters can be used for specific Siege offs, but it’s not necessary to build them, unless you want to test an offense or it’s really good against certain defenses.
We hope these lists will help you to figure out when and how to use your Dimension Hole Energy in the best way. If you’re looking to chat with other Summoners or share experience with your 2A, our Discord Server is the place to be!
