Overview

Pungbaek is best utilized as an attacker for GB10 speed teams or for arena/gw offense. Why? Because he deals tonnes of damage! 🙂 Early Game – Fatal/Blade (Attack%/ Crit Damage/ Attack%) Fatal is easiest rune set to acquire for early game players, since GB10 is the clear starting point of PvE content. As such, Fatal is the ideal early game main set for Pungbaek. Blade is the offset of choice since it also drops from GB10 while also increasing Crit Rate. Crit Damage in slot 4 rather than Attack% in slot 4 is to maximize damage when Pungbaek crits. With Attack% in slot 2 and 6 already, he already has a bonus of 126% Attack. Having Attack% in slot 4 only increases his bonus Attack% to 189%, an increase of 50 percent. On the other hand, having Crit Damage on slot 4 increases that stat from 50% to 130%, an increase of 160 percent. Since Crit Damage in slot 4 has the greatest relative increase in stats, it is the main stat of choice. Late Game – Rage/Will (Attack%/Crit Damage/ Attack%) Rage main set main not seem that all that different from Fatal, but it increases the damage dealt by helping to balance bonus Crit Damage% and Attack%. Attacks generally do the most damage when the Mon has equal amount of bonus Attack% and bonus Crit Damage%. With Fatal set, an Attack%/ Crit Damage%/ Attack% build will result in a total of 161% bonus Attack% and only 80% bonus Crit Damage%. With the Rage set, the totals are 126% and 120% respectively, a difference of 6% rather than 81% from before. The Will offset is mainly used for safety in case enemy units decide to target him by preventing armor break, it also protects him from other stray cc (ex: Attack Break and Stun).

Why not Amir/Lushen? The main difference between Pungbaek and Amir/Lushen is the 2 stage damage. One can think of Lightning of Cycle as a single target nuke with bonus AOE damage if the initial target dies. This creates a situation where you can work around Nemesis runes that are prevalent in high end arena. Rather than doing 30k to the entire enemy team only to have a healer move next and heal everyone back up, Pungbaek does 45k to one target, eliminating it, then does 20k to the remaining 3 units (2 in the case of Guild Wars). This creates a favorable situation of a 4v3 (3v2 in guild wars) leading to a solid win in 1-2 turns. While Pungbaek lacks a second aoe skill that both Lushen and Amir have, he instead packs a utility skill 2, North Star’s Wisdom. Some people believe that its inability to crit makes it bad on a damage dealer who does the most damage with crits, but it feature buff removal to potentially remove a Theomar’s Endure buff. Since the move will always land as a crushing hit rather than as a glancing hit, it will do consistent damage to fire mons. A niche use that many people forget is it doing significant damage to Camillas since her passive doesn’t halve the damage of non crits.

Team Combos

For the arena, I personally like Tyron lead, Bernard, Galleon, and Pungbaek. A safer team would be Pungbaek lead, Bella, Chasun, Bernard. With Bernard going first, your entire team is bound to attack first unless your Pungbaek is very slow.
